Frequently Asked Questions at Our Clinic

Q:  What does a physical exam include?
A:  A physical exam is recommended yearly to better ensure your pet's health. The exam includes the doctor checking your pet's eyes, ears, mouth/gums, teeth, lungs, heart, and skin.

Q:  What do I feed my puppy or kitten?
A:  Puppies and kittens need a good source of protein and vitamins to help with their development and growth. This can be achieved by feeding them a puppy or kitten maintenance diet until they are 1 year of age.

Q:  Should my dog be on a special diet?
A:  Having your dog on a healthy diet is one of the most loving gestures you can show him. All dogs react differently to certain foods. Many dogs do not have a problem with food allergies and can eat anything you offer. Dogs can suddenly develop food allergies, and this is why you should stay clear of table scraps if you learn your dog has a food allergy. Those small scraps of food could cost him or her a lot of discomfort and you unnecessary vet bills.

Q:  How old must my pet be in order to be spayed or neutered?
A:  Spaying and neutering your pet are recommended as early as 4 months of age. An exam to determine whether or not your pet is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia and the surgical procedure is required. Current vaccinations are also required at the time of surgery.

Q:  How soon can I bathe my pet?
A:  Puppies and kittens can safely be given bathes at the age of 8 weeks. Prior to 8 weeks, you can use a baby wipe or waterless shampoo to remove soiled areas on your pet. Always make sure puppies and kittens are kept warm when bathed.

Q:  How often should I have my dog's nails clipped?
A:  Every 3 to 4 weeks depending on your pet's nail growth.

Q:  Is it necessary to brush my dog's teeth?
A:  Yes, their teeth are like ours. Read about your own teeth and gums and apply it to your pet's.

Q:  Is Kennel Cough only a problem at kennels?
A:  Kennel cough is airborne and can be spread anywhere you take your pet. Always have all the shots necessary to prevent disease, especially the Bordetella shot.
